What makes you so special? Have a think about why people would visit your site, stick around and more impor- tantly come back. It’s so hard to get peo- ple to your site so you have to make sure you’ve got the goods to keep them. Carve out a niche for yourself. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Take a look at what your competitors are doing; maybe there is something they are do- ing that you can improve on or tweak. Are you getting your visitors in- volved? Can people comment on your articles? Do you have all the social bookmarking icons? Football tipsters/fans are a little bit touched (that’s my mother’s way of saying that they are mental). There are a lot of them out there who are ob- sessed with the game and their team. Some would be happy to share their tips, write some con- tent for you for free. If you get people involved, interacting with each other, they’ll have a reason to come back. Have a chat with your affiliate managers; they look at affiliate sites from dawn to dusk. They should be able to give you ideas on any opportunities that are out there, things people aren’t doing at the moment or things people are doing that are working well for them. Also, if you get on well with your affiliate managers tap them up for some exclusives – maybe some freebies that you can use for a competition on your site or a one-day free bet exclusive you can offer to your visitors. The best way to succeed this football sea- son is to cut the fat and focus your efforts on promoting a select few bookmakers. Take a softer approach instead of the old-school hard sell, knocking your visitors over the head with free bet banners. And have a think about what makes your site stand out from the crowd.
