affiliates because the regulator cannot keep tabs on every one of them. Let’s keep in mind, this is a venture in cyberspace. It’s just a URL out of billions of URLs. How are you going to find me without any form of marketing? It's impossible to regulate affiliates. If you want to call it such, it’s a necessary evil you cannot take away, because then, ef- fectively, you are destroying your licens- ee’s business. However, in terms of inter- mediaries that would have a gaming site — I think that’s where we should draw the line. I think those should be regulated. What exactly does Cyber Gaming Consultants do? Anything that has to do with remote gam- ing. It’s very simple. Of course, it’s very complicated in practice. But we’re the only company in Malta that is dedicated exclusively to the gaming industry, and I would say one of the very few in Europe. If it’s not gaming, we don’t get into it. We offer a whole range of services to li- censees — basically, anything that they would require, whether it’s setting up their corporate structure, needing a busi- ness plan, approaching financial institu- tions, applying for licenses — not only in Malta, but all around Europe. Providing general maintenance once you have the company in Malta, providing directorship services, key official services — anything that they may need. So a client can walk in and say, all I want to do once I get a gaming license is to have someone tell me, you need to put a signature here. Because all compliance matters are being looked after 24/7. We’ve come a long way since 2006. We’re very privileged to service some of the top brands in the industry, and in total, we service over 100 brands. There’s never a dull moment. I consider myself to be ex- tremely lucky that I can study the indus- try, and that’s my job. I don’t need to read the news to see what’s happening in the industry, because I’m seeing that hap- pening through my clients, and I’m lucky enough to be involved in some of that. What are some things everyone should know about the online gaming industry? It’s an exciting industry. It will never go away, no matter what. I really love to see legislators in Europe, in the United States, maybe starting to understand this. No matter what, this industry won’t go away. You’re either going to find ways to regu- late it properly, but at the same time let it thrive, or else you’re just driving it under- ground with all the problems associated with that. I’d like to see an environment that underlies regulation without being draconian and without being motivated by all the wrong reasons, namely, collect- ing money. 44 The future of iGaming in Malta
