Cue record scratch. Was this guy serious? Sadly, he was – and he continued to expound the viewpoint that losing players should be able to welch on their bets and cancel transaction after transaction, thereby eroding the whole gambling business. January 2009 Grand Prive The Grand Prive Casino Group has the distinction of being one of our first Wall of Shame inductees. It shut down its affiliate program and eliminated affiliate commissions back in 2008 while keeping its online casinos open for business. Efforts were made by the GPWA and others to work with Grand Prive and get it to make good on its non-payments to affiliates, but that didn’t pan out. Talk about larceny! February 2014 Sheldon Adelson Had enough of this guy yet? Before you say “yes,” let us remind you of one of his more hypocritical diatribes against online gambling. Adelson made waves when he said he’d spend “whatever it takes” to stop online gambling from becoming a widespread reality. He claimed online gambling doesn’t create jobs the way brick-and-mortar casinos do. He said minors could easily access online games – never mind the fact that his company was fined $65K for allowing four underage people to gamble in 2013. And that was back in 2014; we’re sure we’ll see him end up on our Wall of Shame again before too long. Wall of Shame Inductees w w w . g p w a t i m e s . o r g 73
