This affiliate’s niche just happens to be one of his favorite pastimes: betting on sports on his smartphone GPWA AFFILIATE INTERVIEW SERIES Alex Windsor - allaboutthebets How did you first get into the iGaming business? I have been an affiliate for almost eight years. I stumbled into the affiliateworld when I was working at a call center. I was trying to get a goodbetting app formy phone, and there were a lot of choices and not a lot of websites offering reviews and guides on the apps. So I thought, why not make one? I have always been intomobiles, tablets, tech- nology and gadgets, so it seemed a perfect fit. I had no idea what I was doing and paid over the odds for my first site. I spent a lot of time looking at SEO forums, reading e-books, listening to audio books and usingwhatever I could get my hands on to try to understand the web and search engines. Before I was an affiliate, I worked for a few mobile phone providers in sales – jobs I don’t miss, but I miss the people and working in a big building and office. Tell us about your sites. When did you launch your first site? The sites I amwork- ing on now were only started in February of this year, so they are all very new. Pre- viously, I had 14 sites that I built up over five years, but I sold them and then had to start from scratch two years later. It has been a slow start to make money this time around, but I have not spent as much time as I would like or need to on them. The industry has become a lot more competitive now than it was five or six years ago. I had quite a goodmonth (inAugust) and should start to make some good money soon. Are you a full-time or part-time affiliate? Currently, I work on the sites part-time due to my other business commitments. I am hoping to free up a lot more time over the next fewmonths to spend on the websites. Do you have employees, or do you run your site by yourself? I run all the sites by myself. I use freelancers to helpme with logos, banners and design work, as I don’t mind admitting I am useless at design. Your sites all focus on mobile apps. What made you decide to organize your sites around apps rather than websites? It seems to be the way the world is go- ing, and most of us spend more time on our phones and tablets than we do on a desktop or laptop. Nearly everyone has a phone and we all use apps every day, so I thought I would focus more on apps than websites. I have a lot of friends who bet regularly on their phones and apps and never use the operator’s website. Most of your sites are about sports betting, but you have one site dedicated to bingo. What inspired you to start a bingo site? I started my bingo site earlier this year, so it is still very new. When I was looking at the SERPS, I saw that there is a huge amount of competition for sports betting apps, so I thought I would focus more attention on bingo apps for the next site, since bingo is getting more popular. I have been playing bingo for a few years and really enjoy playing on my mobile. I try to appeal more to female readers with my bingo site, as I think it is more popular with ladies than men. I also hadmy fiancée use the apps with me, so I can get a female perspective and a genuine novice’s verdict and see how she found the operator. Do you have plans for additional sites? Yes, I plan to do quite a fewmore as soon as I get time. My next site will be a poker site. I would love to do a site on binary and one on forex, but it is difficult finding time to do them. There are not enough hours in the day. Sports betting can be a tough sector, especially when players are doing well. How volatile are your revenues from month to month?
