GPWA Times Magazine - Issue 42 - October 2018

Do you check to see if your site’s content is plagiarized? Comments from GPWA members: GPWA MEMBER POLL Plagiarism is a common problem on the web. How affiliates deal with this issue when it arises is a question often asked on the GPWA forums. In a recent poll, we asked our members whether they ever check to see if others are plagiarizing their content. And if they do check, we asked how often, and what approach they use if their content is indeed being plagiarized. We found that a large majority of our members do check (75%), but not frequently. We also found that very few of those who voted use a tool to check for plagiarism, but those who do check were able to suggest some different tactics to fight back. Wonderpunter PRIVATE MEMBER I only check if I see a drop in traffic for a particular page. A few years ago, another site was rehosting all my content. I think the algorithm is smart enough now to deal with it. Rostick PRIVATE MEMBER I get plagiarized frequently . . . I check it manually with Google. Generally the website owners are kind enough to take action. But unfortunately there’s even somebody who scraped my entire website and duplicated it. Allfreechips PRIVATE MEMBER I have had entire sites copied in the past, but don’t really seem to have many issues anymore. Using a free trial service now and then on the main pages is helpful. AussieDave PUBLIC MEMBER The best way to deal with plagiarism is to submit a DMCA to Google. The offending pages will be dropped from the index, or if it’s a cloned site, the entire URL will be dropped.
