When the legal market is small, dipping into both markets can be an especially tempting path. But for affiliates willing to stick with legitimate brands, the opportunities to establish yourself are great. Harper and Gouker reported working closely with the DGE to ensure regulators understand how affiliate marketers work, as well as teaching players how to navigate legal operators’ sign-up process- es, which can be intimidating in a world of KYC obligations like making players give their Social Security numbers. Players in new markets need to be educated on who is trustworthy, how to deposit and withdraw, how to maneuver bonuses, and other nuts-and-bolts issues that they’d rather not spend much time puzzling over. Building trust — with regulators, with operators, and especially with customers— is one of the key duties of, and opportunities for, successful affiliates, according to Harper. “Operators can say all they want about how great they are,” he said, “but people listen to third-party reviews.” When the legal market is small , dipping into both markets can be an especially tempting path.
