FROM THE FORUMS #8 AussieDave 18 February 2019, 1:47 p.m. Public Member My partner has 17-year-old son who lives with us. He’s a nice enough kid, but has a sense of entitlement that seems to extend to his peers. He often talks about disrespect, but those comments are only leveled at those who disrespect him, not vice versa. I generally address him by his first name, whereas he always calls me “dude,” “bro,” etc., etc. That used to annoy me, but you can’t change what’s been the younger generation’s mindset and status quo for years. Reiterating, this lack of common respect just seems to be a younger generation thing. “ Reply With Quote Originally Posted by Strider1973 “It might be that the younger generation is used to more slang, but that’s not an excuse to use “hey bud” in a business e-mail. An affiliate manager hit me up in my personal e-mail, which they probably got from LinkedIn. First of all, I consider it to be pretty rude to contact somebody in their e-mail without first getting in touch on the platform through which you got the e-mail. Secondly, if they had bothered for just 30 seconds they would actually see that their casino is already live on my site. “ Reply With Quote #10 JoeHarris 19 February 2019, 10:41 p.m. Sponsor Affiliate Program All depends on the level of the relationship you have with your affiliates. If you are very close and speak weekly, I don’t see a problem in using informal greetings. That said, to try and set up a deal and make the first contact starting “hey bud” is ridiculous! Kids today, ay? “ Reply With Quote #9 Anthony 18 February 2019, 4:02 p.m. Affiliate Services/ Moderator It is frustrating to be contacted by someone you are already working with. Sadly, I see those e-mails far too often. It only takes a moment to look at the site they are contacting. I guess they look at it as a numbers game and focus on getting as many e-mails out as possible. There have been a few affiliate managers who contacted us and they did take the time to review the site and offer their program as something that would fit in with a About the first phrase “Hey bud!”: It sounds friendly in my language, now I have learned that is not that good idea to use it. Maybe it’s better to use “Hello sir” or “Hello there”? “ Reply With Quote particular vertical or geo we were promoting; unfortunately, they are rare. “ Reply With Quote The 20-somethings are used to communicating this way. They’ve been brought up with communication shorthand on social media . . . I’ve tried to read some of my children’s texts and such, and it’s like a different language ! G P W A t i m e s . o r g 48
