GPWA Times Magazine - Issue 45 - October 2019

How many hours a week do you spend on affiliate marketing? Comments from GPWA members: GPWA MEMBER POLL One of the more popular features of the GPWA Times Magazine is the affiliate interview series (see page 46 for this issue’s installment). Since we launched the magazine back in 2007, we have interviewed over 200 affiliates fromnearly 50 different countries around the world. One of the questions we typically ask our interview subjects is if they are a full-time or part-time affiliate. Since there are a wide range of answers to this question, we thought it would make for an interesting poll to ask what percentage of our members are full-time, and if they aren’t working 40 or more hours a week, how much time they actually spend on affiliate marketing on a weekly basis. The poll results show that our most of our members are indeed full-timers, with 67% of respondents saying they work 40 or more hours a week on their affiliate business. As is often the case, the poll’s thread spurred some spirited back and forth about the definition of “work” and “full-time,” as well as some explanations as to why they work that certain amount of hours, and what tasks take up most of their time. A sampling of those comments can be found below. I check my links and banners regularly just to make sure that they’re all up and running smoothly. I also remove any marketing materials that don’t generate conversions or income anymore. Also, I make sure there are no broken links, images or anything of that sort. Strider1973 PRIVATE MEMBER I’m a full-time affiliate marketer for nine years now. As long as I haven’t reached financial independence, I’ll continue to work hard, more hours than in a corporate job, as I also work on weekends and during “holidays.” But I love my job and it doesn’t feel like hard work, it’s rather like a full-time hobby. Proffa PRIVATE MEMBER I work around six hours a day. Affiliate marketing is my “full-time” job. We do have a bunch of staff working on our site, so I guess the hours add up in that sense. When we started we used to work much more, but now most of the mechanical day-to-day tasks are handled by our staff, which means that we can focus more on the bigger picture. 7 % Part-time (20-40 hours per week) 67 % Full-time (40+ hours per week) 10-20 hours per week 6 % Less than 10 hours a week 10 % G P W A t i m e s . o r g 12
