Barney Frank (D-Mass.) says resistance is growing against a ban passed late last year. The new chairman of the House Financial Services Committee said he plans to introduce a bill against the ban in the next two weeks, despite facing resistance from fellow Congressmen. Aborted bid talks hit 888 shares The BBC is reporting that shares in the online gaming giant 888 Holdings have fallen sharply after talks of a possible takeover by Ladbrokes proved to be untenable. The shares dropped more than 5.5 percent. South Africa looks to legalize online gambling The South African Herald reports that South Africa is considering legalizing or regulating online gambling. The consideration is a reponse to the perceived ineffetiveness of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in America. Taiwanese gambling Web site busted The China Post reported last weekend that police uncovered Taiwan's largest online gambling Web site, which allegedly recorded total 'revenues' of over NT$1.5 billion in six months. Members of the Taiwanese police force were allegedly involved with the Web site. World 3D Poker hosts CAC 2007 party CAC 2007 sponsor World 3D Poker, in conjunction with Zipang Casino and 777 Baby will hold a party at the upcoming Spring Convention in Amsterdam. The event will take place Thursday May 3 at the Odeon Nightclub. Doors open at 9 p.m. Bwin reports 2006 results Bwin reports gross gaming revenues of EUR 381.8 million, up 165.2% from 2005. The online gaming company also reported a successful start of communicated strategic change and claims to have 2.1 million active and 1.3 million new active real-money customers. Kenny Rogers launches poker site Kenny Rogers, the country music legend, has attached his name to a play-money poker site that allows registered participants to compete for prizes like vacations or a seat in the 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event. Rogers also sponsors a mobile phone version. Record numbers expected at CAC Close to 1000 online gambling industry executives are expected to attend the CAC Conference in Amsterdam next month, organizers are saying. The event is taking place May 3-5 at the NH Grand Krasnapolsky Hotel. Organizers cite the growing interest in European marketing as the reason for the high number of registrants. |
